This simple project offers all the charm of a handmade gift but requires so little time. In fact, it takes only minutes to transform a standard tin case into a mini-masterpiece! Decorative paper gives the case a little personality, and crepe fabric adds an elegant, luminous touch. To turn the project into a complete gift package, create a set of handmade stationery to match the case design. The finished product is sure to impress—and nobody ever needs to know how easy it was to make!

                                           MATERIALS AND TOOLS

tin case            decorative paper     solid-color cardstock    crepe fabric   scissors    double-sided fusible web (steam-a-seam 2)   paper glue   pencil   iron

1.  Prepare paper with fusible web

Cut one sheet of fusible web and one sheet of decorative paper, each sheet large enough to cover both sides of the tin case. Peel the carrier sheet off one side of the fusible web, then adhere it to the right side ( front) of the decorative paper. Iron the fusible web onto the paper.

2.  Adhere crepe to paper
Peel the carrier sheet off the decorative paper to expose the sticky surface. Press a piece of sheer crepe fabric onto the sticky surface and smooth it down with your hands.

3.  Iron crepe

Run a warm iron over the crepe-covered paper.

4.  Trace around case

Lay the crepe-covered paper facedown on your work surface. Then, lay the tin case on the paper. Use a pencil to trace the perimeter of the case onto the paper twice.

5.  Cut out paper

Cut out the paper, trimming along the traced lines to create a front cover and a back cover for the case.

6.  Adhere paper to case

Use paper glue to adhere the crepecovered paper onto the front and back covers of the tin case.

7.  Create stationery
Using scraps of the crepe-covered paper, make corresponding stationery and notecards from cardstock to fi t inside the case. When fi nished, place the stationery in the case.

8.  Cut ribbon

Fold or roll the crepe fabric several times, then cut the end to make a ribbon. Do not worry about cutting a straight edge; the uneven edge will give the ribbon an interesting look.
 9.  Tie bow

Tie the crepe ribbon around the tin case and fi nish with a bow.
